Fructose Tied To High Blood Pressure
According to the American Heart association, any type of sugar can not only cause excess weight gain, but is also considered a key player in the development of diabetes, stoke and heart disease. Now, yet another study has been published showing the connection between fructose and high blood pressure.
The diets of over 4,500 US adults over 18 with no history of high blood pressure were studied by the researchers. They filtered through the surveys to determine average daily fructose consumption of the participants and found that those who consumed 74 grams or more of fructose a day had a 28% increased risk of blood pressure 135/85 or higher and a 77% increased risk of blood pressure 160/100 or more.
It is worth noting that no single study should be considered conclusive, but this one does add to a growing body of evidence suggesting that artificial sugars may help trigger changes in the body that lead to high blood pressure among other health problems.
The Corn Refiners Association and the American Beverage Association both objected to the study.
