Women suffering from hot flashes have higher systolic blood pressure than those who do not- regardless of their menopausal status, according to a study by Cornell University.
154 women ages 18-65 wore blood pressure monitors for 24 hours. All of the women either had normal or slightly elevated blood pressure and one third of them reported experiencing hot flashes in the past 2 weeks. Recent research shows the number of adults in the US with hypertension is on the rise; up noticeably from a decade ago. It is believed that 29% of U.S. adults from 1998-2004 had high blood pressure. They also discovered that only 61% of those with high blood pressure were treating it and only 35% had their blood pressure under control.

A study by UC Davis indicates that grape seed extract shows potential as a way to lower blood pressure.
24 adults with metabolic syndrome (factors that increase that increase the risk of heart disease, such as high blood pressure) were divided up into three groups and followed for one month. One group was given a placebo, another 150 milligrams of grape seed extract and the final 300 milligrams of grape seed extract. Vitamin C has been traditionally used as a home remedy for lowering blood pressure, and a study by researchers at Boston University School of Medicine and the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University showed promising results and may prompt more research into using vitamin c to lower blood pressure.
The study included 45 hypertensive adults and was double-blind and placebo controlled. After patients took 500 milligrams of vitamin C per day for one month there was a decrease in both their systolic and diastolic readings. Patients on the placebo also …
